VKA TOURNAMENT RULES

Sparring

·         All divisions 1 point for hand tech, 2 points per kick

·         Legal target all divisions above the belt only, no techniques to the back

·         Must have both feet in bounds to receive point(s)

·         Dipped foam head, hand, foot protectors and mouth guards are mandatory in all divisions.

·         Shin guards, face shields and rib protectors are optional

·         Groin protectors are mandatory for male competitors

·         No face contact in all divisions – 4  inch rule in effect

·         Blood is automatic disqualification

·         Coaching is at promoter’s discretion

·         All competitors must wear full uniforms

·         Soft style competitors may wear t-shirts with school logo

·         No jewelry

·         INFRACTIONS

o   Attacking illegal targets

o   Using illegal techniques

o   Running out of bounds

o   Falling to the floor to avoid fighting

o   Continuing after being ordered to stop

o   Pushing, cursing, or using vindictive conduct

o   Gross disrespect to judge or opponent

·         UNDER BELT DIVISION

o   5 point system

o   No sweeps

o   One warning, every infraction after that, penalty point

·         BLACK BELT DIVISION

o   7 point system

o   Sweeps with follow up techniques, boot to boot, front leg

o   No warning on rule infraction

·         WEAPONS AND FORMS

o   The criteria for this competition are balance, timing, speed, strength, weapons  position, eye position, focus, concentration, balance and personality of the form

o   Must use authentic martial art weapon. No sharp weapons

o   No striking floor with weapon. If weapon breaks - disqualified

·         UNDER BELT DIVISIONS

o   Under belt ties can do same form or different one

o   Third tie, point to the contestant they felt won

o   If a contestant forgets their form, they may start again but points will be deducted

·         BLACK BELT

o   Ties – will do a different form

o   Third tie – point to contestant they felt won
